
Blue Sky Meats came into existence because of a small meat shop’s desire to allow more people to enjoy what it feels is some of the best tasting, highest quality meat you can buy.
Blue Sky Meats are produced at our shop in Sherrill, Iowa that has literally risen from the ashes. Years ago, Earl Moore and his partner Carl Joos (now deceased) owned a meat locker named B&K Meats (Est. 43). The locker burned down and Earl (age 76) built a large two-level dwelling at the former site where he, his former partner’s widow Pearl (a retired 30-year sausage maker from the former Dubuque Packing Company), and her daughter Lynette live. Earl saved various pieces of meat processing equipment from the fire and stored them in the dwelling. After many requests and encouragement from friends, Earl, with assistance from Pearl, Lynette and two close friends, began processing beef and pork for other friends. At some point, they began selling retail meat products to local residents. As time passed, they were doing more and more meat processing to keep up with the demand, which now includes people driving from over 100 miles away to buy their fine products. Last year they began selling retail meat products at nearby Dubuque, Iowa’s farmer’s market. Not only are people driving from miles around to buy their products at their shop, people are now driving from miles around to buy them at the farmers market too!
